Barberino Val D'Elsa

Company Description

Our company was established in 1982 thanks to the passion shared by a group of friends for wines and the Tuscan countryside. This led to a project for farming with a low environmental impact.
At Barberino Val D’Elsa, in Tuscany, midway between Florence and Siena, they purchased some land that had been abandoned for years and… started work. After initially growing cereals  the current vocation of the company, focusing on the cultivation of vines and olive trees, was soon established: wine and extra-virgin olive oil are now the main products of our company.

Certifications Information

Only contact products, such as copper and sulphur, are used to protect the vines from parasites. In conventional winegrowing, instead, “systemic” anti-parasites are also used. These are chemical compounds which migrate inside the plant and can leave residues. Only bio-certified organic products are used as fertilisers. Chemical herbicides are never used in organic vineyards. Weed infestation is only controlled through mechanical processes. The vines are biologically protected against harmful insects (moths). Bacteria (bacillus thuringiensis) are introduced and later swallowed by the vine pathogens, causing them to die. The above techniques provide an improved and more natural balance for the vines and for the environment as a whole, as well as protecting the health of both the producer and the consumer.

In our wineries we use organic winemaking techniques and methods, also in this case, without adding any foreign subjects and ensuring a very low sulphur dioxide content.

Sustainable details

Our wines are made with traditional Chianti grapes: Sangiovese, Malvasia, Trebbiano, Canaiolo and Colorino.
Our vineyards cover an area of approximately 10 hectares. The low yield per hectare guarantees a quality product.

Our production includes several kind of wines in order to face each consumer's taste: from the more traditional Chianti DOCG Colli Fiorentini, to the more international Supertuscans, to the younger IGT SO2 Free. We also produce rosé, white and passito wine.
