The importance of organic is growing at a substantial rate. The recent report by FIBL (Research Institute of Organic Agriculture) reported that the global market for organic food showed its highest growth ever in 2020 (a total increase of 14 billion euros) – therefore there’s never been a better time for the world to facilitate and support organic trade.
The most important business event for the organic and natural industry in the Iberian Peninsula – Organic Food and Eco Living Iberia takes place on 8-9 June at IFEMA MADRID. This two-day trade-fair is perfectly timed to help thousands of companies set up distribution networks and retail deals across Spain, Europe and even further afield. Due to the growing demand of companies participating this year, the show is the biggest edition yet with +600 exhibitors confirmed, and exhibition space is now 70% sold out.
“In the last 5 years the number of organic operators in Spain has increased by 36%, reaching 53.325 according to the annual report by ECOVALIA, one of the leading organic associations in Europe. This number is expected to reach 119.243 in Europe by 2030. Organic is no longer an option, it is essential, ” says Susana Andrés Omella, Project Manager, Organic Food & Eco Living Iberia.
“With the increasing emphasis on improving our natural environment, animal welfare, and the move towards net-zero, this year’s Organic Food Iberia comes at a crucial time for our sector,” according to Carsten Holm, Managing Director of joint-event organiser, Diversified Communications.
“With sales of organic increasing 15.1% in Europe last year, the organic category has become one of the fastest growing and most important categories in food retail and catering. Organic Food Iberia is the melting pot where the whole sector comes together to share ideas, network, innovate and do business and has become the must attend event for anyone involved in the sector,” Holm adds.
The fair expects to attract 7,000 visitors – including senior professionals from Spain’s largest supermarkets, health-stores, retailers, distributors, and exporters looking for the next organic and sustainable innovations. As well as the central exhibition, the trade fair has three theatres full of inspiring talks and live cooking demonstrations.
New brands, new features
Wertform Gmbh, Casa Grande de Xanceda, Natureco, Aneto 100% Natural, Dyvhana, Banbú, Pura Vida Voelkel, Biográ and Natracare will join the Organic & Eco Living Iberia line-up for the first time. Whilst leading organic companies like Trading Organic, Biocop, Natruly, Happy Bio, BiotoBio, Frutos Secos Medina, Avogel, Anecoop, Santiveri, Bruñó, El Cantero de Letur, will return with their latest innovations for 2022.
There will be 25% more exhibition space than last year, and lots of new feature areas. The show will see the return of the Kitchen Theatre, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture – Alimentos de España and The Innovation Zone, showcasing the latest products to launch in the last 12 months. In this area, visitors will have a chance to vote for their favourite products to win in the Eco & Organic Awards Iberia 2022. Two new categories have been added to the awards or 2022, which include the ‘Eco Packaging Award’, which covers all aspects of product design, packaging and marketing and the ‘Animal Production Award’.
‘The Elevator Pitch’ will also be an unmissable session this year – where exhibitors will be able to present their projects and innovations to buyers. This year also sees the implementation of the EcoPack area, dedicated to suppliers of sustainable and biodegradable packaging. There will also be badges on each stand identifying Free From and/or Vegan products.
