Company Description

Ours is a Palestinian social entrepreneurship project that produces Olive oil, Almonds, Freekeh and other Palestinian specialties from small-scale farmers in Palestine.

Our products are certified Organic and Fairtrade and are dense in the nutrition facts values due to their organic landrace varieties and healthy ecosystem they are grown in.Our project is for the Palestinian rural communities to sustain their livelihoods, farming traditions, ancient trees, and millennia-old permaculture and ecosystem.

The  project idea was formulated around affording viability for Palestinian rural communities to sustain their livelihood, farming traditions, ancient trees, and millennia-old permaculture and ecosystems. Nasser utilized the olive trees as a way to give Palestinian farmers a sustainable living and a voice at the same time. Over the years, and as the project progressed, he ended up developing a strong network of producer, commercialization, and research organizations working hand in hand to empower more than 2,000 small hold-farmers.

These farmers started growing organic crops, mainly olives, and were able to sell their produce at a fair price, thus allowing a sustainable living. The project also influences positively to the general development of the region, as it offers employment opportunities to farm workers and there is a lot of investment in community projects, research and extension, education. etc. Moreover, as a direct result of the project, the price of olive oil has generally risen in Palestine, improving also the incomes of Palestinian farmers outside the fair-trade system.

Our’s sustainability framework is derived from our culture and philosophy as a family business that is part and parcel of its ecosystem, sustaining small-scale farmers livelihoods and farm viability while in full harmony with the environment in ways that protect the soil and preserve local culture. Our commitment to sustainability starts with the soil, our producer communities, all the way to our customers and global partners.  Our ultimate objective is preserve our ancient permaculture and achieve a shift in modern agriculture towards a more sustainable food producing and processing ecosystem.

Certifications Information

Canaan’s sustainability framework is derived from our culture and philosophy as a family business that is part and parcel of its ecosystem, sustaining small-scale farmers livelihoods and farm viability while in full harmony with the environment in ways that protect the soil and preserve local culture.

Our commitment to sustainability starts with the soil, our producer communities, all the way to our customers and global partners.  Our ultimate objective is preserve our ancient permaculture and achieve a shift in modern agriculture towards a more sustainable food producing and processing ecosystem.

Organic practices are in the core of Canaan’s culture and philosophy. Canaan translated these beliefs into practices by following multiple organic certifications requirements, including USDA, European, Naturland, and Japanese organic requirements.

Canaan carries a responsibility towards a significant ecological inheritance in the Palestinian landscape. Our farmers are the stewards of a land that has some of the oldest permaculture on earth. The Land of Canaan is where the first agriculture revolution in human history took place. From agriculture came the first settlements, to then the development of the fist alphabet, to the human history we know.  This cultural inheritance, in landscape settings, in faming practices, in landraces, in actual living trees for thousands of years, in cuisine, and social communities that produce from the and give to the land, all represent the Canaan Ecology that Canaan seeks to nurture a life for.

Canaan Ecology is to invest in preserving these ecosystems and their traditions. Learn from them, draw from them, benefit from them and sustain them for future generations.  We seek to research and document these ecosystem and the innovations, designs and the practices that allowed for their survivals. Enrich them with modern permaculture and regenerative agriculture knowledge. And share with our customers and partners around the world a piece of these traditions in the nutrients dense food ingredients these ecosystems produce.

Organic and Fair Trade practices are part of our identity, it's not a label nor a market requirment, it's what we believe in, and how me go by every day in our professional and personal lives.

Olive Oil

The Middle East is regarded as one of the most biodiverse environments, and Palestine in particular has a dense biodiverse ecosystem that is reflected into the value of its food, especially when produced in its natural setting. Our olives grow in this rich environment in the hills of Palestine where the whole ecosystem is reflected in the taste, flavor, and nutritional value of the oil.

Our olive oil comes from the ancient Surri tree variety that has been maintained and cultivated in Palestine since the era of Roman Empire. Organically grown as an original variety that families passed down through generations.

We supply superior-quality olive oil that is well-suited for all types of manufacturing applications.

Processing: Cold pressed and filtered.

Appearence: Rich, grassy green.

Almonds

Since the “Land of Canaan” to this day, Palestine has been regarded as a paradise, “The Land Of Milk and Honey”, for its rich food forests, diverse and healthy indigenous food. Our almonds are a result of these millennia of food and farming traditions that have been practiced by Palestinian farmers who are fully integrated into their ecosystem.

Canaan almond is known for its large size of 19 kernels per ounce, compared to all other almond varieties, with the largest kernels of 23 per ounce.

Our almond comes in sweet almond taste, with rich, buttery flavor.
